The Hiawatha Belt

The belt shown above depicts the Haudenosaunee--the union of the 5 Nations Confederacy under the Great Law. The nations represented from left to right are: Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga and Seneca. The Tree of Peace, which stands in the center, represents the seat of the Grand Council at Onondaga (near Syracuse, NY). When the Tuscaroras joined in 1722, the Confederacy became known as the 6 Nations. For more information about the Great Law, go to:
